Discover the ancient stannary town of Ashburton - a colourful, quirky, vibrant and bustling historic town nestling on the edge of Dartmoor National Park.

 

Situated half way between Plymouth and Exeter, Ashburton is not only the Southern Gateway to Dartmoor, but also the ideal base from which to explore the whole region - from moor to sea.

 

The scenery in the area is spectacular in all the weather's moods and offers visitors opportunities for walking, cycling, pony trekking, kayaking, fishing and, if you like, just pottering - “A town for all reasons” Ashburton really does offer something for everyone!

Jardine’s Water Works’ - in 1866 Mr Jardine, MP for Ashburton, installed a water supply to the town from his own estate which supplied 10 public water conduits in the town - you can still see the alcoves that housed the water conduits around the town.

Ashburton Outdoor Swimming Pool is open from May to September each year and is heated so you can enjoy a lovely swim whatever the weather. 

 

The pool offers a variety of activities such as Aquafit, adult and child swimming lessons and water polo.

Ashburton Skatepark

 

Situated at the Ashburton Recreation Ground - the skatepark has some interesting features with a great mix of street and transition features - banks, stair set with hubba and rail, driveway and bowled mini with volcano!  Enough to keep most skaters entertained whatever your age or ability!

Letterboxing

Letterboxing (the art of hiding boxes for others to find)  has long been a popular pastime on Dartmoor. The craggy landscape of the national park provides an abundance of hiding places. Perfect for families looking for a day out with a difference.  Pop into the Information Centre for details.
